Wichita State hired John Brewer as director of marketing and promotions. He spent the past three years at New Mexico, two as marketing manager. He is a native of Albuquerque and played basketball for the University of San Diego.
With the first pick of the 2007 draft, the Chicago Blackhawks took Patrick Kane. The Flyers took James van Riemsdyk with the second pick. Now both players are in the Stanley Cup finals, facing each other with Game 1 set for tonight.
"It seems like it's almost worked out good for both teams," Kane said. "They're here three years later. I'm here three years later, our team is, and that's the most important thing for this franchise."

Connecticut coach Jim Calhoun and the men's basketball program he took from obscurity to national titles have been accused of eight major NCAA infractions, with investigators citing hundreds of improper calls and texts from UConn staff to recruits. Besides the calls and texts, the accusations include giving recruits improper benefits and improperly distributing free tickets to high school coaches and others. Calhoun is cited for failing to promote an atmosphere of compliance. Athletic director Jeff Hathaway offered support for Calhoun and defended the university. "With regard to coach Calhoun, he personally has a long-standing demonstrated commitment to NCAA rules compliance."
Bryce Molder shot a career-best 8-under 62 and leads after two rounds at the Colonial in Fort Worth. Molder's round got him to 13 under. That's good for a one-stroke lead over first-round co-leader Jason Bohn and two strokes better than Kris Blanks and Brian Davis. Phil Mickelson missed the cut at 4 over despite two days of ideal scoring conditions at Hogan's Alley.
* Fred Couples shot a 4-under 68 to take the lead at the Senior PGA Championship, one stroke ahead of Tom Kite at the Colorado Golf Club. Couples was at 7 under for the tournament after the best round of the day, despite teeing off in the afternoon, when the wind picked up after a morning lull.
The Seattle Seahawks unexpectedly waived running back LenDale White just weeks after a splashy draft-day trade that brought him to Seattle from Tennessee. "It became apparent at this time that LenDale was not ready to be a member of the Seattle Seahawks," general manager John Schneider said. NFL Network, citing unnamed sources, reported Friday that White was "likely" facing a four-game suspension for violating the NFL's drug policy.
The U.S. men's team will use lineup likely to be close to its starting team in the World Cup when the Americans play the final tuneup on home soil today against Turkey. The U.S. team leaves Sunday for South Africa to begin final preparations for the June 12 opner.
