Players of the week

* Volleyball player Emily Stockman was named Missouri Valley Conference player of the week at WSU athlete of the week after leading the Shockers to a three-set sweep of Missouri State last week.

* Ottawa's Lauren Peil, from Haysville, was named KCAC defensive player of the week for soccer. She had two shutouts to up her career mark to 19. Peil has a 0.71 goals-against average this season.

* McPherson defensive lineman Scott Jones was the KCAC defensive player of the week for football. Jones had seven tackles, including two sacks and four tackles-for-loss in a win over Southwestern. Ottawa quarterback Ethan Haller was the offensive player of the week and Friends' punter/kicker Drew Johnson, from Valley Center, was the special teams player of the week.

* Sterling's Ashley Kraft, from Ranson, was the KCAC hitter of the week in volleyball. Teammates Adriana Gonzales and Kelsey Deerinwater picked up setter of the week and libero/defensive player of the week honors.

Golf

The Wichita State men's team is tied with Tennessee-Chattanooga in the Aldila Scenic City Invitational after 36 holes with a 12-under-par 564. WSU's Dustin Garza shot a 137 and is tied for second, two strokes off the lead. Tyler Gann is tied for fifth with a 139. Today's final round begins at 9:30 a.m.

UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar has withdrawn from his upcoming title defense against Shane Carwin because of an illness.

Lesnar was scheduled to fight Carwin in the main event of UFC 106 on Nov. 21 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas. The former professional wrestler and college wrestling champion said Monday he's been out of training for nearly a month while battling the unspecified illness.

Lesnar is the mixed martial arts league's top pay-per-view draw after his lucrative title defense against Frank Mir in UFC 100.

Tito Ortiz's return to UFC against former champion Forrest Griffin will become the main event at UFC 106.

UFC hopes to reschedule Lesnar's fight against the unbeaten Carwin for early next year.
