The Kansas City Chiefs are signing cornerback L’Jarius Sneed, a source told The Star.

Sneed, 29, originally entered the league as a fourth-round pick by the Chiefs in the 2020 NFL Draft. Sneed was a critical part of the team’s defense during KC’s Super Bowl LVII and Super Bowl LVIII championship runs.

During the 2024 offseason, Kansas City traded Sneed to the Tennessee Titans in exchange for a 2025 third-round pick and swap of 2024 seventh-round picks. The Titans then signed him to a lucrative four-year contract, but injuries limited him to two seasons in Tennessee before his release in March.

The Chiefs’ decision to sign Sneed indicates they were comfortable with his medical evaluation during his visit last week. Sneed dealt with an ailing knee late in his Chiefs tenure.

Sneed also was involved in headlines away from football this offseason. In May, Sneed’s attorney, Michael J. Todd, told ESPN that all criminal charges related to a December 2024 incident had been dropped. Sneed at one point was charged with aggravated assault, and the charge was later reduced to a misdemeanor offense of a failure to report a felony before being dropped, reports said.

Given the offseason departures of Trent McDuffie and Jaylen Watson, Kansas City was in need of another cornerback — even with the additions of rookie first-round pick Mansoor Delane, rookie fourth-round pick Jadon Canady and veterans Kaiir Elam and Kader Kohou.

Over 54 regular-season appearance in Kansas City from 2020-23, Sneed compiled 303 tackles, 40 passes defensed and 10 interceptions.

If he can stay on the field, Sneed offers familiarity with Steve Spagnuolo’s system and the inside-outside versatility Spagnuolo covets in defensive backs.
