Kapaun boys soccer coach Alan Shepherd spent part of this season searching for the right lineup and formation.
As the season has progressed, plans have come to fruition.
Ian Daley scored three goals as Kapaun defeated Great Bend 6-3 on Tuesday night in the Class 5A quarterfinals. Kapaun will play in the semifinals Friday at the Kansas City Piper Athletic Complex.
"As a team, we've done well at concentrating on the little things," Shepherd said. "We've been playing smart soccer and it has been big for us in recent games."

With 32:10 left in the first half, Drue Benning got the Crusaders on the board.
"Drue has been a tone-setter for us all year," Shepherd said. "He has a nose for the goal and got us going right from the start tonight."
The Crusaders continued to build momentum as Daley knocked in his first goal less than four minutes after.
"We've been working the ball around the field well," Daley said. "It has allowed us to open up a lot of scoring opportunities."
Daley added his second goal soon after halftime to make it 4-1; later, off of an assist from Benning, Daley worked the ball through multiple Panther defenders to complete the hat trick.
"We got the ball behind the defense quite a bit tonight," Shepherd said. "Give Ian the ball in those situations and it works right into his game."
Competition will continue to grow and Shepherd knows his team will have to build off of this performance in order to reach the final.
"The pressure will only get higher this weekend," Shepherd said. "Playing with great speed and maintaining possession will be key."
