Katy Nugent watched helplessly as Adin Stromgren made two fantastic par saves. The first, a 20-foot putt uphill on No. 13, was followed by an impressive chip-in from the rough on No. 16. Those shots kept the pair tied down the stretch of the final round of the Kansas Women's Golf Association's Amateur Championship at MacDonald Park Golf Course on Thursday.
But Stromgren missed her third lengthy par save on No. 17, and gave a 1-stroke lead back to Nugent. And then it was Nugent's turn to make the lengthy putt.
On No. 18, to seal her second consecutive KWGA Amateur Championship, her 60-foot birdie putt wound down the slope and cheers arose as it slid into the cup. Nugent was thrilled one finally rolled in.
"I really struggled with my putting this week, for something like that to drop on the last hole, it was great," Nugent said. "I was thinking I was going to get a couple strokes back (on No. 16), but (Stromgren) played really well and it sure was exciting down the stretch."

Nugent, who will be a junior at KU this fall, shot her best round of the tournament, an even-par 72 to finish 6-over par 222.
" (The second title) is great. It's always fun to win and this was like a college event with all the great girls here," Nugent said.
After her bogey on No. 17, Stromgren still looked poised to give Nugent a run on the final hole. But after her drive into the middle of the fairway, it all came unglued.
Stromgren's approach shot landed short of the green in a bunker. And after getting on the green, she three-putted for a double bogey and finished fourth, four shots back.
"The chip-in kept me going, I knew I had to go for it, but unfortunately it ended," Stromgren said. "I just hit two bad shots. Not much else I can do about it."
Gianna Misenhelter, from Overland Park, finished second after she defeated Hannah Martin of Salina on the second hole of a playoff. Misenhelter, who overcame a bogey and a double bogey in the first three holes, got par on the par 3 No. 2, a hole she didn't do well on this week, to secure second.
"There was no pressure, no pressure whatsoever," Misenhelter said. "I just wanted to play the way I do normally and it was great. I just didn't want to think about how I had played the hole before and just attack it."
Emily Houtz, the leader after the second round, finished fifth with a final-round 79, five shots back. Krista Hrdlicka, from Wichita, finished seventh with a 231.
