Former Wichita State guard Joe Ragland earned Guard of the Year honors from Eurobasket in the Italian Serie A, the top tier of Italian basketball and one of Europe’s best leagues.

Ragland averaged 17.7 points and 5.1 assists for Scandone AV. He made 56.3 percent of his shots, 40.9 from three-point range.

Scandone AV went 19-11 to finish third in Serie A.

Ragland’s pro career continues to go fabulously. He is a player who is essentially playing at an NBA level and likely could land an NBA contract. Those non-guaranteed deals, at least in the past, aren’t as financially rewarding as his overseas gigs.

Ragland played at WSU in 2010-11 and 2011-12 after transferring from North Platte (Neb.) Community College. His 2012 season ranks as one of WSU’s best scoring performances and you can read more about it here in this 2016 blog post.
