Wichita State’s admissions department is using basketball coach Gregg Marshall to make prospective students feel like they’re on the team.
The admissions department, according to director Bobby Gandu, uses motion capture technology to write people’s names on a basketball jersey, held by Marshall in Koch Arena. The name also appears on a dorm room and a cup.
“Once we had tracking on all of the spots we wanted the text to appear in the video, we used a spreadsheet with students’ names and additional software to create and upload the videos individually to YouTube,” Gandu wrote in an e-mail. “By the time all is said and done, we’ll have more than 4,000 videos created and uploaded for our admitted students who will see Gregg Marshall hold up their own customized jersey.”
Marshall did the shoot last fall.

“(Gandu’s) done me many solids over the years, so I’m glad that they’re using it and I hope that it’s working,” Marshall said.
