No. 14 Oregon cruised past No. 23 Wichita State 3-0 (25-16, 25-19, 25-12) on Friday night in the Nike Classic in Eugene, Ore., ending WSU’s seven-match win streak.
The Ducks hit .394, a season-high for a WSU opponent, with eight errors on 99 swings. Oregon (6-1) never trailed after taking a lead midway through the first set.
The Shockers (7-1) hit a season-low .059 and finished with 27 kills and 21 attack errors.
WSU led 11-10 in the first set before the Ducks closed on a 15-5 run. In the second set, Oregon led 8-1 and 21-7. In the final set, Oregon built leads of 14-7 and 21-8.
Tabitha Brown led WSU with seven kills, her first match this season in single digits. She committed five attack errors and hit .069. Abbie Lehman added six kills and hit .222.
Oregon’s Willow Johnson hit .409 with 11 kills on 22 swings. Lindsey Vander Weide also had 11 kills.
The loss ended WSU’s best season-opening streak since the 2008 team went 29-0.
Earlier Friday, Wichita State improved to 7-0 with a 3-0 (25-16, 25-15, 25-11) win over Duquesne.
Brown led WSU with 11 kills on 19 swings with no errors, for a .579 attack percentage. Lehman hit .474 with 10 kills.
Setter Emily Hiebert recorded 32 assists, eight digs and six kills.
The Shockers hit .343 while holding Duquesne to .071.
Maria Mosbacher led Duquesne (4-5) with nine kills.
The Shockers play Cal Poly at 4 p.m. on Saturday.
