Wichita State volleyball is leading the American Athletic Conference two weeks into its membership.

On Monday, the Shockers (6-0) moved into the AVCA top 25 at No. 23, their first appearance since finishing No. 23 in the final 2012 poll.

WSU is the American’s lone unbeaten and its lone representative in the top 25.

Junior outside hitter Tabitha Brown earned American offensive player of the week honors. Brown, MVP of the Hampton Inn Invitational, averaged 4.5 kills, 2.6 digs, .58 blocks and hit .316 in 12 sets.

She set a career-high with 24 kills in a 3-1 win over Miami (Ohio), a few hours after getting 21 in a 3-2 win over Marquette.

WSU setter Emily Hiebert won the award after the season’s first weekend.

The Shockers, off to their best start since the 2008 team went 29-0, play in the Nike Classic in Eugene, Ore., this weekend. They face Duquesne and No. 14 Oregon on Friday before finishing against Cal Poly, which is receiving top 25 votes, on Saturday.

Kansas (6-0) is No. 7.
