Wichita State’s Topham earns All-Region honors in NCAA meet

Wichita State sophomore Rebekah Topham followed her Missouri Valley Conference title with All-Midwest Region cross country honors on Friday.

Topham, from Griswold, Iowa, finished 15th in the women’s NCAA Midwest Regional meet in Iowa City. She ran the 6-kilometer course in a career-best time of 20 minutes, 37.39 seconds.

Sidney Hirsch (20:57.33) and Emilea Finley (20:57.94) finished 28th and 29th. Ugis Jocis led the WSU men with a time of 31:10.60 in the 10-kilometer race.

The WSU women finished 12th in the 33-team field. The men placed 14th in the 26-team field.

The Kansas women placed fifth with Kansas State in 21st. The KU men placed eighth with Kansas State No. 18. KU’s Sharon Lokedi finished second with a time of 20:00.7.
