Wichita State improved to 3-0 in the Missouri Valley Conference volleyball standings with ease Saturday night, sweeping Drake in three sets at Des Moines.
The Shockers (13-3) swept Drake (2-14) for the 20th time in 21 meetings — 25-11, 25-13, 25-16 — and have won 26 straight matches over the Bulldogs.
Hitting .328 as a team, WSU was led by Elizabeth Field’s 12 kills and .524 attack percentage. Ashley Andrade had 11 kills and a .526 attack percentage.
Trailing 4-3 in the first set, the Shockers ripped off five straight points to take control. Chelsey Feekin had two kills in that stretch and Field added another. Sam Sanders successfully served the final five points of the set, including an ace and a set-ending kill from Feekin.
WSU controlled the second set, though Drake pulled within a point at 23-22 and 24-23. But Ashlyn Driskill’s kill on a Feekin assist was the game-winner.
Drake stayed with Wichita State at 5-all in third set before WSU scored five straight points, eventually leading 15-5 and keeping a lead near double digits for the rest of the set.
The Shockers return to Koch Arena on Monday at 7 p.m. to face the under-23 Italian national team in an exhibition match, then play host to Southern Illinois and Evansville next weekend.
