No. 24 Wichita State swept North Dakota State in its volleyball opener on Friday night in Orem, Utah.
The Shockers won 25-22, 25-16 and 25-18 on the first day of the La Quinta Inn and Suites Invitational at Utah Valley University.
Consecutive kills by Elizabeth Field helped the Shockers overcome a 19-18 deficit in the opening set. Later ahead 21-20, WSU scored three straight points and eventually put the game away on a North Dakota State service error.
Sam Sanders served five straight points in the second set, helping WSU to a lead as big as seven points midway through the set. Ahead 20-16, WSU scored the final five points on a Field kill, three NDSU attack errors and Ashlyn Driskill’s service ace.

The Shockers, who take on Arizona State on Saturday morning before facing host Utah Valley on Saturday night, built leads of seven points three times in the final set.
WSU hit .146 in the first set before improving to .304 in the second set and .423 in the third. Field had nine kills and Sanders eight.
