Wichita State baseball coach Todd Butler recently signed his contract, a seven-year deal paying him a base salary of $300,000.

Wichita State announced Butler’s hire on June 16. He spent eight seasons as an assistant coach at Arkansas before taking over at WSU. He replaced Gene Stephenson, who was fired after 36 seasons and will receive $568,310 in the final year of his contract.

•  Butler received a $30,000 signing bonus. His salary will increase by $20,000 in June 2015 and June 2017, in addition to other annual raises.

•  Butler can earn several bonuses, including one-half of a month’s salary for a winning record in Missouri Valley Conference play and additional one-half of one month’s salary for MVC regular-season and tournament championships.

•  Each NCAA regional game played is worth one-half of one month’s salary. An appearance in a super regional is worth a similar amount. Making the College World Series triggers a bonus of one month’s salary. Additional bonuses of one month’s salary are earned by playing in the CWS championship series and winning a national title.

•  Butler can earn a bonus of one-half of one month’s salary should the program record an Academic Progress Rate score of 930 or better. The APR is a measurement used by the NCAA to monitor academic progress and retention. Failure to reach the APR cutline of 930 can result in penalties that include reduction in scholarships or eligibility for post-season play.

•  WSU will provide Butler a private plane for recruiting a minimum of three times a year.

•  Butler is provided $385,000 annually to pay two assistant coaches and a director of operations.

•  Should Butler leave WSU before June 30, 2016, he will owe the athletic department $300,000.
