Wichita State’s Tuliamuk-Bolton advances in women’s 10,000

Wichita State senior Aliphine Tuliamuk-Bolton finished second in the women’s 10,000-meter run Thursday night at the NCAA West Preliminary in Austin.

Tuliamuk-Bolton finished in 34 minutes, 52.71 seconds, just behind Iowa State’s Betsy Saina. Tuliamuk-Bolton is an 11-time All-American. She will try to qualify in the 5,000 on Saturday.

The meet continues through Saturday. The national meet is June 5-8 in Eugene, Ore.

Natalie Morerod finished fifth in her 400 hurdles heat in 59.76 seconds and missed qualifying for the semifinals by five-hundredths of a second.

WSU senior Tanya Friesen, who has already qualified for the national meet in the heptathlon, went 18 feet, 8 1/2 inches in the long jump, which was not far enough to qualify in that event. She will try to qualify in the high jump on Friday.

Zach Budda and Garret Lynch both cleared 6-7 1/2 inches in the men’s high jump, not good enough to advance. Kansas State’s Erik Kynard was one of eight jumpers to clear 7-1.

The meet continues through Sunday.
