Shocker women win sixth straight

The Wichita State women’s basketball team won its sixth straight, beating Southern Illinois 72-59 on Friday night in Carbondale, Ill.

Chynna Turner scored 22 points and Alex Harden added 15 for the Shockers, who are unbeaten in Missouri Valley Conference play. Harden added seven assists for WSU (12-6, 6-0).

Rishonda Napier scored 23 to lead SIU (4-13, 1-5).

The Shockers led by 18 points early in the second half. Napier, a freshman, hit four three-pointers in the second half to keep the Salukis in the game, at one point cutting the lead to six points. A basket by Harden followed by a three-point play for Turner gave the Shockers a 63-52 with 2:51 to play.

WSU shot made 50 percent of its shots (29 of 58) and committed just seven turnovers. Turner hit 10 of 14 shots.

Wichita State plays at Evansville on Sunday afternoon.
