Baseball players Mike Pelfrey and Carl Hall and distance runner Desiraye Osburn are the class of 2012 for Wichita State's Shockers Sports Hall of Fame.
The trio will be inducted on Jan. 21 during a halftime ceremony at the men's basketball game against Southern Illinois at Koch Arena. On Jan. 20, they will be honored at a dinner and reception.
Pelfrey and Osburn were selected by the hall of fame committee in their first year of eligibility. All three are Kansans — Pelfrey from Wichita, Hall from Haysville and Osburn from Lyndon.
* Pelfrey (2003-05) is perhaps WSU's greatest pitcher. He went 33-7 with a record 2.18 earned run average in three seasons. He earned All-America honors in 2005 and was the Missouri Valley Conference Pitcher of the Year in 2004 and 2005. The New York Mets drafted him with the ninth pick in the 2005 draft. He has pitched six seasons in the major leagues.
* Hall (1991-94) was the MVC Player of the Year in 1994 and earned third-team All-America honors from Collegiate Baseball. An outfielder, he ranks eighth on WSU's career list for steals (110), is tied for 12th with 58 doubles and tied for 11th with 16 triples. As a senior, he hit .354 with 42 steals.
Hall, who was paralyzed in a car accident in 2010, was told of his induction last February during a basketball game. ABC's Extreme Makeover: Home Edition featured the Hall family and filmed a ceremony at halftime.
* Osburn earned All-America honors, three times in track and once in cross country. In cross country, she won the 2005 NCAA Midwest Regional meet and the 2005 MVC meet. She finished 26th in the NCAA meet. In track, she earned All-America honors in the mile run (indoor) in 2006 and the 5,000 meters (outdoor) in 2005 and 2006.
