Wichita State has no more games scheduled with Texas-Arlington on the 2011 baseball schedule.
That's a good thing for the Shockers, who lost to the Mavericks for the second time in four days Sunday. This time it was a 9-3 decision in Arlington as WSU (9-2) wrapped up a four-game Texas weekend with a 2-2 record.
Defense was a problem for WSU on Sunday. The Shockers committed five infield errors which led to four unearned runs.
Third baseman Dayne Parker committed a first-inning error that led to a two-out single that scored UTA's Michael Guerra.
WSU answered with a second-inning run, as Ryan Hege scored on a double play.
UTA (6-5), which has won four straight games, chased Shocker starter Tobin Mateychick in the second inning. Two singles, a double, a walk and a wild pitch led to his exit after 1 1/3 innings and five runs.
Wichita State got single runs in the fourth inning (Tyler Grimes RBI single) and the ninth inning (Tyler Coughenour sacrifice fly), but UTA added three runs in the seventh and a final run in the eighth.
Shocker catcher Chris O'Brien, Hege, and second baseman Walker Davidson each had two hits for WSU, which is off until beginning a three-game series at Tulane on Friday night.
