WSU's Don Heinkel to go into National College Baseball Hall of Fame

Former Wichita State pitcher Don Heinkel will become the fourth Shocker inducted into the National College Baseball Hall of Fame.

Heinkel, who pitched at WSU from 1979-82, will be honored on July 1 in Lubbock, Texas along with nine others. Heinkel joins former Shockers Joe Carter, Phil Stephenson and Darren Dreifort in the hall.

Heinkel went 51-12 at WSU and holds the NCAA record for career victories. His 2.62 ERA ranks fifth at WSU.

Also joining Heinkel will be Cerritos (Calif.) College coach Wally Kincaid, Alabama infielder Dave Magadan, Arizona State shortstop Alan Bannister, Fresno State coach Bob Bennett, LSU first baseman Eddy Furniss, Michigan pitcher George Sisler, North Carolina catcher B.J. Surhoff, Wake Forest second baseman Charles Teague and Texas pitcher Richard Wortham.
