Drake turns back Shockers

The Drake women built a 25-point second-half lead on Saturday en route to a 68-54 victory over Wichita State in a Missouri Valley Conference game in Des Moines.

Leading 28-22 at halftime, Drake (10-4, 3-1 MVC) extended the lead to 25 with 10:20 remaining in the second half. WSU (10-5, 2-2) held Drake without a basket in the last 3 minutes, 40 seconds.

Guard Haleigh Lankster led the Shockers with 20 points before fouling out. Lankster made 8 of 13 shots, including two of the team's three three-pointers.

Freshman forward Michelle Price came off the bench to score a season-high nine points, six within a two-minute span of the second half.

Guard Jordann Plummer led Drake with 20 points. She made 4 of 10 shots but hit all 12 of her free-throw attempts.

Drake shot 32.3 percent in the first half but led 28-22 at halftime. The Bulldogs warmed up to 47.8-percent shooting in the second half.

WSU, which has lost two straight, will play host to Indiana State on Thursday night and Illinois State on Saturday afternoon this week.
