WSU volleyball gets back on track

Wichita State broke a two-match volleyball losing streak, beating Drake 3-0 (25-16, 25-16, 25-23) on Saturday in Des Moines.

No. 25 WSU dominated the first two sets. Drake built an 18-14 lead in third set, but back-to-back kills by junior Sarah McGee helped pull the Shockers back into the match.

McGee finished with 10 kills and a school-record .833 hitting percentage, breaking the mark of .818 shared by Elizabeth Meyers and Carrie Gerth.

Emily Stockman and Katie Niggemeyer had 11 kills each for WSU, and Amanda Backes added 10. Mary Elizabeth Hooper had 42 assists and Melissa Granville had 21 digs. The WSU defense held Drake to a .164 attack percentage.

The Shockers' 36-match Missouri Valley Conference winning streak was snapped Sept. 25 at Missouri State. Creighton beat WSU on Friday.
