Hutchinson women will play for NJCAA title

The Hutchinson Community College women’s basketball team advanced to the NJCAA Division I championship game for the first time with a 69-56 win over Central Arizona on Friday at the Bicentennial Center in Salina.

The No. 2 Blue Dragons, 36-0, will play No. 1 Trinity Valley, 35-0, today at 7 p.m. Trinity defeated Pensacola State 71-66 in the other semifinal.

Laura Patrick, the Jayhawk West player of the year, led the Blue Dragons with 18 points. Fellow sophomore Jackie Patterson added 17 points and nine rebounds.

The Blue Dragons rallied for a 29-26 lead at halftime after trailing by as much as seven points in the first half.
