Late interception lifts ESU to victory

Emporia State intercepted Missouri Southern quarterback Collin Howard five times, including Michael Luthi's game-winning, 54-yard interception return for a touchdown with just under six minutes to play to cap the Hornets' come-from-behind victory at Emporia.

Emporia State improved to 1-1 in MIAA play with the victory. Derek Lohman had two interceptions and six tackles for the Hornets.

Central Missouri 37, Pittsburg State 20 — Central Missouri's Eric Czerniewski threw for 356 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions as the Mules handed Pittsburg State its first loss of the season at Pittsburg. The Gorillas led 7-0 after the first quarter on a 20-yard touchdown pass from Zac Dickey to Bristan Kelley before Central Missouri reeled off 27 straight points.
