Bethany tops Saint Mary in opener

Sophomore running back Theron Allen ran for 104 yards and one touchdown and also returned a kickoff 93 yards for a touchdown as Bethany rolled to a 51-27 win over Saint Mary in the Swedes' season opener at Leavenworth.

Bethany trailed 7-3 in the first quarter after Billy Owens scored on a 19-yard touchdown pass from Mike Keese, who threw for 355 yards and three touchdowns in the loss.

Allen's kickoff return gave the Swedes the lead for good and Bethany extended to 39-14 in the third quarter.
