Tigers pull upset of No. 1 UCM

Dominique Jones led No. 13 Fort Hays State with 26 points and seven assists as the Tigers rallied from a double-digit deficit in the second half to defeat No. 1 Central Missouri 81-71 on Monday at Warrensburg, Mo.

Sanijay Watts led the Mules with 23 points and 11 rebounds.

Jones was one of four players in double figures scoring for Fort Hays (12-1 overall, 6-0 MIAA), along with Hutchinson Community College transfer Ken Bowman (16), Willie Hassell (14) and Scott City product Corbin Kuntzsch (13). Bowman added eight rebounds.

Trailing 34-33 at halftime, the Tigers found themselves down 53-43 with 12 minutes to play in the second half before reeling off a 20-7 run to take a 63-60 lead with seven minutes left.

The Tigers, who are missing leading scorer Tim Peintner because of a high ankle sprain, took sole possession of first place in the MIAA with the victory, which was Central Missouri's first loss of the season.
