Pitt State gets off schneid with victory

Pittsburg State snapped its longest losing streak in 32 years with a 21-13 victory over Missouri Southern on Saturday in Joplin, Mo.

Jeff Smith found Garden Plain product Kendall Fisher for an 11-yard touchdown with 2:55 to play to give Pitt State a 21-7 lead.

After the Lions came back with a six-play, 63-yard touchdown drive to get within a score.

Missouri Southern's onside kick attempt was foiled by Fisher, who recovered the ball at the Lions' 43.

Smith converted a six-yard pass on fourth down with 1:33 to go to keep the clock rolling and hold off Lions.

Fisher finished with four catches for 56 yards and the touchdown, while Jon Thomas led the Gorillas (3-3, 1-3 MIAA) with six receptions and 97 yards.
