MIAA football: Pittsburg State, Emporia State get first wins

Pittsburg State scored two touchdowns in the final two minutes and beat Central Oklahoma 45-31 on Thursday night in Edmond, Okla.

Kiah Kintchen’s 1-yard TD run with 1:56 left capped a 12-play, 67-yard drive that put the Gorillas ahead 38-31. Spencer Brown returned an interception 25 yards for a touchdown 26 seconds later for another Pittsburg State score.

Thomas LePage completed 17 of 27 passes for 264 yards and two TDs for Pitt State (1-1).

Emporia State 34, Nebraska-Kearney 7 – Emporia State’s defense forced four turnovers and shut out Kearney for the first three quarters in Kearney, Neb.

Braxton Marstall passed for 272 yards and two TDs for the Hornets (1-1), and rushed for a team-high 73 yards.

Central Missouri 34, Fort Hays State 17 – Central Missouri built a 24-point lead after three quarters in Warrensburg, Mo. Fort Hays State (1-1) was limited to 223 yards.

Northwest Missouri 41, Washburn 7 – Top-ranked Northwest Missouri rolled to the win in Maryville, Mo.
