Jayhawk basketball to have Oct. 19 open practice

LAWRENCE — If you missed out on attending Kansas’ season-opening Late Night in the Phog, KU coach Bill Self is giving fans another opportunity to get a look at the Jayhawks’ young basketball squad.

KU will play host to an open practice and scrimmage on Saturday, Oct. 19, from 9:45 a.m. until approximately 11 a.m.

The event is free to the public and will take place just hours before the Kansas football team plays Oklahoma at 2:30 p.m. at Memorial Stadium.

“With practice starting three weeks earlier than normal, this will be a great way for our fans to get another early look at our team,” Self said. “We didn’t show much at all during Late Night other than 20 minutes of bad ball. This way KU fans can come see us before heading to the football game.”

The announcement of the event comes after thousands of fans were turned away from Allen Fieldhouse on the evening of Late Night in the Phog. More than 20,000 fans had lined up outside of Allen Fieldhouse for the event, and the evening was plagued by line-cutting and a lack of crowd control. As a result, many fans waited in line for hours before being turned away.

KU announced that doors to Allen Fieldhouse for the scrimmage will open at 9 a.m. Fans will not be permitted to “save seats” for others, and limited concessions will be available until 10:15.
