K-State women beat KU, wraps up 4-seed

Jalana Childs scored 16 points and was one of three Kansas State players in double figures as the Wildcats beat Kansas 56-51 on Saturday night in Lawrence.

With the victory, K-State (20-9, 10-6 Big 12) will be the fourth seed in this week's Big 12 Conference Tournament in Kansas City's Municipal Auditorium. The Wildcats will play Wednesday afternoon against the winner of Tuesday's first-round game between No. 12 Nebraska and No. 5 Iowa State.

K-State won for the seventh time in nine years at Allen Fieldhouse and for the 18th time in the last 20 meetings between the Sunflower State rivals.

Wildcats coach Deb Patterson won her 299th career game.

Childs was injured in Wednesday's victory over Texas A&M but came back strong against KU. Mariah White had 14 points for KSU while Taelor Karr had 12 points and eight rebounds.

KU had a 44-43 lead with 6:45 remaining, but K-State scored the next nine points. Karr had a three-point play, then White and Childs each had two free throws before a White jumper.

KU scored five straight to cut the lead to three, but Karr's free throws put the game away.

Kansas was led by Carolyn Davis' 15 points and 14 rebounds. The Jayhawks (19-11, 6-10) will be the eighth seed in this week's tournament, facing No. 9 Colorado in Tuesday's 11 a.m. game.
