UNLV: The Rebels ended a two-game losing streak by defeating Southern Utah 72-50 on Saturday at home.... UNLV won its first nine games of the year, and entered the top 25 in large part because it won the 76 Classic in Anaheim with wins over Tulsa, Murray State and Virginia Tech. It lost its first game of the year at Louisville 77-69 and followed that up with a home loss to UC Santa Barbara.... The Rebels advanced to the NCAA Tournament ago, but lost in the first round to Northern Iowa.... UNLV is led by former K-State great Lon Kruger, who has guided his team to four consecutive 20-win seasons. He is joined by several former Wildcats on his coaching staff, including Steve Henson.

Kansas State: The Wildcats have not rebounded the ball well in either of their last two games. Despite going up against a smaller Loyola Chicago team, K-State's frontcourt was outrebounded 45-38. Against Florida, they were pushed around under the basket and ended up being outrebounded 35-32. Those are not good statistics for a team that has not been shooting the ball well of late. Rebounds allow a team to get easy points even when its outside shots aren't falling. When the Wildcats were unable to get boards against the Gators and shot 27 percent from the field, they could only manage 44 points. Curtis Kelly and Freddy Asprilla will have the opportunity to redeem themselves today against smaller UNLV frontcourt.... Will Spradling is hoping a return to his home in Kansas City and the Sprint Center will give his outside shooting a boost. Earlier this season, he made two three-pointers at the Sprint Center against Gonzaga, but has not made one since.... The entire Wildcats' roster was cold from the outside against Florida. In the second half, K-State missed all 10 of its three-pointers.... Expect sophomore guard Martavious Irving to play more than 25 minutes today after putting together two straight solid games.... The sophomore guard has put back-to-back solid games together. Frank Martin likes to use K-State's depth in games against name opponents, particularly under the basket. That may give Wally Judge and Jordan Henriquez-Roberts an opportunity for extra minutes.
