Alcorn State: The Braves, of the Southwestern Athletic Conference, are struggling against a difficult schedule. They start with 10 road games and have lost the first six by wide margins. Its closest loss came by 18 points at Denver. The Braves are averaging 57.5 points. After Baker's 15.3 points, no one else scores more than 6.8. Larry Smith is in his third year coaching Alcorn State (8-60). He spent 13 NBA seasons with the Warriors, Rockets and Spurs.

Kansas State: The Wildcats arrived home from Pullman, Wash., early Saturday morning. It is a quick turnaround after playing in an intensity-packed road game, but they have dealt with that several times this season, playing Presbyterian two days after defeating Virginia Tech and playing Duke a day after beating Gonzaga. Russell has scored a total of two points in K-State's last three games. Kelly snared three rebounds against Washington State, and Martin said he needs to do a much better job on the glass. McGruder continued his stellar season by scoring 15 points and grabbing eight rebounds last time out. "I've gained unbelievable confidence in him," Martin said.
