Missouri State edges Nevada

Nafis Ricks hit a pair of free throws with three seconds left Saturday, helping Missouri State overcome a 10-point second-half deficit and beat Nevada 62-60 in a nonconference BracketBusters series game in Springfield, Mo.

The Bears trailed 55-45 when Nevada's Armon Johnson scored on a dunk with 6:32 remaining. Missouri State tied the game at 57 with a 12-2 run that was capped by Will Creekmore's jump sho t with 3:03 remaining. Creekmore had six points during the run.

Ricks scored the game-winner when he was fouled while rebounding a miss from teammate Adam Leonard as the Bears worked for the last shot.

Kyle Weems led Missouri State with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Creekmore and Leonard had 11 points each.

Luke Babbitt led Nevada (16-10) with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Johnson added 15 points.

Southern Illinois 89, Western Michigan 72 — Carlton Fay exploded for 38 points for Southern Illinois.

Fay went 10 for 13 from the field, including 3 for 6 from three-point range, and 15 for 17 from the free-throw line, scoring the most by a Saluki since 1996. Fay scored 12 of the Salukis' first 19 points and had 22 in the first half, which ended with Southern Illinois ahead 52-37.

Kevin Dillard added 17 and Kendal Brown-Surles 12 for the Salukis.

David Kool led the Broncos (14-13) with 21 points but shot only 4 for 19. Flenard Whitfield had a double-double with 13 points and a game-high 12 rebounds, and Demetrius Ward scored 12.

After Fay's jumper put Southern Illinois ahead 38-27 with 5:34 left in the first half, the lead dipped into single figures only one more time, at 61-52 with 10:17 to go.
