Martens scores 4 in wild Thunder loss

The Fort Wayne Komets beat the Wichita Thunder 5-4 on Saturday in a game that featured a four-goal second period by Thunder defenseman Andrew Martens and a third-period brawl that resulted in 153 penalty minutes in Fort Wayne, Ind.

The Komets took a 3-0 lead in the first period. Martens scored two power-play goals 26 seconds apart to pull Wichita within 3-2 in the second. After a Komets score, Martens added two more goals to make it 4-4. All four of his goals came in a span of 5 minutes, 17 seconds.

Fort Wayne reclaimed the lead on P.C. Drouin's goal at 3:08 of the third.

After a tripping penalty on the Komets with eight seconds left, the Thunder had a power play plus an extra attacker. Matt Robinson drove to the net and was stopped by Fort Wayne goalie Nick Boucher with 2.3 seconds left, but awarded a penalty shot.

After the unsuccessful penalty shot, a series of fights broke out, beginning with Thunder goalie Marty Magers challenging Boucher, who refused. Five Thunder players received a total of eight game misconduct penalties in the melee.
