Butler's Kirk Hunter becomes WSU cross country coach

Kirk Hunter, who has coached the Butler Community College cross country team the past 10 years, has been hired for the same job at Wichita State, the university announced today.

Hunter will also be an assistant track coach. He was Butler's head track coach.

"I am really excited about Kirk Hunter joining our staff as our new head cross country and assistant track coach in charge of our distance runners," track coach Steve Rainbolt said in a statement. "Kirk has been a terrific coach and recruiter at (Butler) and now he can bring those abilities to WSU."

Hunter was at Colby Community College from 1988-2000 as cross country coach and later athletic director.

He is a 12-time Region VI women's cross country coach of the year and two-time men's coach. The 2002 Grizzly women were named national team champion.
