After finishing second in the River Run 10K race Saturday, Rebecca Jons wasn't ready for a rest. She was ready for an extra workout.
Jons won the women's two-mile race at the 2010 River Run, capping off a busy day. She finished in 11 minutes, 42 seconds, just ahead of 15-year-old Emily May.
"It feels great, I came out to have some fun," Jons said.
After running the 10K an hour before, the two-mile race went fast for Jons.
"I just started the two-mile and thought it felt easier once we started," Jons said. "Plus it's done in two miles, it was much faster."
David Keller, 41, won the men's race in 9 minutes, 37 seconds. Keller who also won in 2008 and was second in 2009Fernando Martinez finished second in 10:03.
"I feel real good about it, it was a perfect day to run the race," Keller said. "I've just been lucky and blessed to get out there and run. I feel very, very lucky."
Keller credited Martinez, who runs with Keller early in the morning, for helping keep up his pace even as he enters his 40s.
"He's the one who gets me up at 5 a.m. and we came through the first mile together. He fell back a little bit," Keller said. "After that, I just felt good the second mile. I was able to maintain my pace, the start is so exciting, you want to go out so fast."
