Ceballos came to the United State from Mexico as a toddler and in 2025, while renewing his green card, admitted to having voted in US elections; doing so only because he thought his immigration status allowed him to. The State of Kansas charged him with felony voter fraud, but reduced the charges to misdemeanors to which Ceballos plead guilty to this year. Thinking the issue was behind him, Ceballos' attorney was given a surprise summons on Monday that Ceballos had to surrender to immigration officials by 11 a.m. today.
