An article on the Social Security system running out of money in 2035 left me wondering: What year do you think the welfare system will run out of money?
As if our kids and teachers haven’t been insulted enough, this state has turned those who represent them into Oliver Twists who must bow their heads and plead, “Please, sir, may I have some more?” This humiliation is unconscionable and unworthy of a state that used to value education.

To those bringing in the refugees and flooding our schools with extra expenses: Come up with the money out of your pocket to pay the bills. Don’t throw it on taxpayers.

I’m bewildered. It took District Attorney Marc Bennett just one month to clear a civilian of wrongdoing in a fatal shooting but nearly a year to clear the police officers involved in two recent shooting deaths. My guess is he’s gunning to prosecute a cop.
I’m sure the people of Chanute would be happy to put up paintings of other religious figures next to Jesus in order to keep the original painting in its place. It’s only fair, right?
If any Kansas school were lucky enough to have the original of Michelangelo’s sculpture of Jesus on the cross or Dali’s painting of the Crucifixion, would our “legal experts” agree they also should be removed?
I thought Friday’s number of cars at BlackTop Nationals was down a bit, but Saturday was great – lots of cars, and a crowd said to be the biggest since the first year. Keep up the great work.
