Big year for NBC tourney should lead to more

What fun it was to see the excitement and crowds of this year’s National Baseball Congress World Series. The participation of the Kansas Stars team of former major leaguers, accompanied by the likes of country star Toby Keith and Willie Robertson of “Duck Dynasty,” was great for ticket sales at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium. But the well-known names and their obvious enjoyment of the games also enriched Wichita’s love of the 82-year-old tournament and even for baseball. As Eagle columnist Bob Lutz wrote, “Once isn’t going to be enough.... Here’s hoping the Stars are back in the NBC World Series for years to come.” – Rhonda Holman
