Rep. Tim Huelskamp, R-Fowler/Hutchinson, who portrays himself as an anti-establishment outsider, is pleading with House Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wis., “to save his hide by reinstalling him on the agriculture panel,” Politico reported. Huelskamp was booted from the House Agriculture Committee in 2012, which has become a key campaign issue in his re-election race against Roger Marshall. But Ryan’s spokeswoman said that committee assignments will be decided by a steering committee at the end of the year. And one steering committee member told Politico that Huelskamp has “zero chance” of getting back on the ag committee, saying Huelskamp has “burned more bridges than J.E.B. Stuart,” referring to the Confederate Army general. – Phillip Brownlee
