Kansas hospitals are concerned about how long they are having to hold psychiatric patients because no beds are available at Osawatomie State Hospital. Wichita’s Via Christi Health, for example, has had to hold patients for more than four days, the Kansas Health Institute News Service reported. That puts a strain on hospital staff and resources – and doesn’t get the patients the level of care they need. Osawatomie closed a 60-bed unit in April 2015 to start renovations ordered by federal officials and has yet to reopen it, KHI reported. – Phillip Brownlee
