Anti-municipal broadband bill among year’s worst

Kansas was singled out only once in the “11 of the worst policy ideas of 2014” roundup by the Washington Post’s Wonkblog – for a failed bill written by cable TV lobbyists that was intended to prevent Chanute and other cities from building their own broadband services. But other ideas on the list will ring some bells for Kansans as well: “Drug-testing welfare recipients.” “Banning fluoride in your water.” And “scapegoating Colorado for your state’s drug problems” (though Kansas has not joined Nebraska and Oklahoma in suing Colorado over its marijuana legalization). – Rhonda Holman
