Wichita needs many more people like chef Tanya Tandoc – individuals with creativity, curiosity and a zest for life and community who seem to know and inspire everybody and can make stuff happen. So it’s hard to believe, and heartbreaking, that the city lost the one and only Tandoc to homicide last week. One of Old Town’s pioneers in the 1990s, Tandoc more recently had broadened her reach beyond her small Tanya’s Soup Kitchen on East Douglas through her upbeat food commentaries on KMUW Radio, 89.1 FM. One way to honor her memory is to try to live life the way she did – savoring every bite. – Rhonda Holman
