It is great that the family of former President Dwight D. Eisenhower is now supporting the design of his planned memorial in Washington, D.C. The project had stalled in part because of complaints by the family about the aesthetics of the design and that it was too focused on Ike’s boyhood home in Abilene. The memorial will now also prominently feature Normandy, where Eisenhower led the D-Day invasion in 1944. The few dissenters in Congress also now need to get on board. Sen. Pat Roberts, R-Kan., who is chairman of the memorial commission, hopes to finish the project by the 75th anniversary of D-Day in June 2019. Let’s honor Ike and get this done. – Phillip Brownlee
