District 7, Republican

D’Andrea
D’Andrea Jaime Green The Wichita Eagle

Robert D’Andrea, 68, is the choice for the district that covers Hutchinson to Emporia, Lindsborg to Maize and Valley Center. D’Andrea is technical coordinator for the Salina Catholic schools district. He has been in education 47 years and emphasizes his current working relationship in his job with the state Department of Education. He’s also on the state advisory board for virtual and charter schools.

Ben Jones, 30, is a Sterling native and works part-time in that town’s school district with debate and forensics students, as well as vocal music students. Jones emphasizes representation of small-town districts, but he doesn’t have the experience necessary within a school system.

The winner will face Democratic nominee James Hannon in the Nov. 6 general election.
