Let’s hear it for the girls, too: When the last of the brackets were revealed, all three of Kansas’ Division I women’s basketball teams joined the three men’s teams in the postseason fray.
In the women’s NCAA Tournament, coach Deb Patterson’s Kansas State University Wildcats will face Princeton at 10:20 a.m. Saturday in Bridgeport, Conn., and coach Bonnie Henrickson’s University of Kansas Jayhawks will meet Nebraska at about 6:50 p.m. Sunday in Little Rock. The NCAA appearances will be K-State’s second in a row and KU’s first since 2000.
Coach Jody Adams and the Wichita State University Shockers will host a first-round game in the WNIT against Oral Roberts University at 7 p.m. Friday in Charles Koch Arena.
“We don’t want this to be over,” Adams told The Eagle.
Neither do many basketball-crazy Kansans. Congratulations to all the student athletes, women and men, who have given Kansas an impressive six shots at postseason glory this year.
