Showers and thunderstorms can be expected on Thursday in the Wichita metropolitan area, forecasters say.

Some of those storms could produce heavy rainfall, particularly along and north of U.S. 400, according to the National Weather Service. Large hail and damaging winds will be possible with the strongest storms.

Highs will be in the low 80s, with light southerly winds in the single digits. Rain will continue Thursday night, forecasters say, with localized flash flooding possible with downpours.

Chances for showers and thunderstorms will linger Friday and Saturday, with storms more likely Saturday night. Highs will be in the mid- to upper 80s.
