The Friday morning commute will be a soggy one in the Wichita metropolitan area.
More than an inch of rain fell in parts of the city overnight, with showers persisting as dawn arrived. The National Weather Service office had logged 1.06 inches between midnight and 6:30 a.m., with amounts varying widely depending on location.
“It’s more like tropical rain — very isolated, and where it does get together, it’s very heavy,” said Eric Metzger, a meteorologist with the weather service.

Rain should continue through mid-morning, he said, before the precipitation finally shoves east out of the area. Skies will gradually clear later, with highs climbing into the low 90s.
Winds will shift from the south to the east, occasionally reaching the teens. Chances for rain return Friday night and continue through the weekend, forecasters say. Highs will be in the low to mid-90s.
