The clouds that greeted sunrise should clear by mid-morning, setting the stage for a hot and sunny day in the metropolitan area. Highs are expected to peak in the upper 90s with light south winds staying mostly in the single digits.
Thursday could hit 100, forecasters say, with sunny skies and lingering light southerly winds. Chances for showers and thunderstorms return Thursday night and persist into at least early next week. Highs should hover in the mid-90s during that period.
