Wichita weather: A dry, calm day – then storms could arrive

A few breaks in the clouds and a wisp of wind are expected in the Wichita area Wednesday, forecasters say.

Highs should reach the low 90s, with calm conditions early before winds finally stir just a bit this afternoon. A slight chance for showers arrives later tonight and continues through the early morning hours of Thursday, forecasters say.

Some of the storms later Wednesday could be severe, according to the National Weather Service, with storms most likely northwest of a line from Kingman to Wichita to Yates Center.

The main risk will be damaging winds of up to 70 miles an hour, hail as large as quarters and localized flooding from heavy rain.

Daylight hours should be dry in the Wichita area Thursday before chances for more showers return in the evening.

Rain possibilities will persist through the weekend in the metropolitan area before another spell of hot weather sets in, forecasters say.
