An excessive heat warning is in effect until 8 p.m. Friday for 24 counties of southern and southeast Kansas, including the Wichita metropolitan area.
Wichita is expected to top 100 degrees again on Thursday, with the heat index reaching 106. Some parts of the state could see the heat index reach 111, according to the National Weather Service.
Triple digits are also anticipated for Wichita on Friday and Saturday before the heat eases a bit, forecasters say. The heat index is likely to climb well above 100 through the weekend.
Overnight lows will barely dip below 80 during this period, forecasters say. A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms arrives Sunday.
