Wichita will simmer this week, with sunny skies and hot temperatures expected all week.
Highs will be in the mid- to upper-90s through at least Sunday, forecasters say, with triple digits possible late in the week. The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory effective from 1 p.m. today until 8 p.m. Friday for 18 counties in southern and southeast Kansas, including the Wichita metropolitan area.
The heat index could reach 105 in the region this week, according the service. South winds will be in the teens on Monday, with gusts touching 20 miles an hour at times.
Those winds will be persistent out of the south this week at similar speeds, forecasters say.
